How to rollover data data from last year when W2Mate installed on different computer?

Question

I had W2Mate installed on a different computer last year.  This year I have installed W2Mate on a new computer and I would like to rollover the data from last year.  I tried just copying over the database file for last year to the new computer, but the 'Rollover data from last year' tool failed to locate this data.

How can I successfully rollover the data?

Am I required to install last year's W2Mate on the new computer first?

Please follow these simple steps:

 

1. Go to the old computer machine.

 

2. Load old W2 Mate software.

 

3. Open the company you want to move to the new machine.

 

4. From the top menu select Tools > Backup Company and save the backup file on a flash drive.

 

5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 above for each company you want to move to the new machine.

 

6. Go to the new computer machine and connect your flash drive.

 

7. Load W2 Mate 2013.

 

8. Select Tools > Restore Company File.

 

9. If you would like to reset the amounts on forms (start with blank forms), select from the top menu "Tools > Zero Amounts on Multiple 1099-MISC Forms" (if you have 1099-MISC) or "Tools > Zero Amounts on Multiple W2 Forms" for W2s.

 

10. Repeat steps 8 and 9 above for each company you want to restore.
