1099 Excel Import, how to keep leading zeros?

0 votes
We are using your software for 1099's this year for the first time.  We are importing using excel and csv format.  Someone sent me a template.  The question we have is if an ID (SSN/Ein) begins with zero the formatting removes the zero when saved.  What should we do in the case?  So far other than this questions everything seems to be working perfectly for us.

To keep the leading zeros, please follow these tips:

1. Inside Excel for anything where you want a leading zero, format it as Text so Excel does not modify the column data.

2. Check and double check the data inside Excel and make sure you see the leading zeros before you save as CSV.

3. Very Important: Once you save the file as CSV, do not re-open again inside Excel or it will remove the leading zeros.
